Northland College has announced the use of a new environmentally-friendly cleaning program for all campus buildings. The new line of products and accessories is called Healthy High Performance Cleaning from JohnsonDiversey. The College has selected new products, implemented new procedures and started new building care programs that are better for the environment, the campus and the greater community. The change is part of Northland’s commitment to provide everyone with a safer, healthier and more environmentally friendly home.
“We are always looking for ways to reduce our environmental impact,” says Rick Waligora, director of facilities maintenance at Northland College. “We do a great job here at Northland of ‘talking the talk’ about environmental issues and this is another big step in ‘walking the walk.’”
In order to provide the campus and the greater community with a safer, healthier environment, only products that meet the high standards set by agencies like Green Seal were selected for the Healthy High Performance Cleaning program. Green Seal is an independent, non-profit organization that identifies and promotes products and services which cause less toxic pollution and waste, conserve resources and habitats, and minimize global warming and ozone depletion. The Healthy High Performance Cleaning program that the College is using was developed in consultation with Green Seal.
The goal of the change is not only to reduce the effects of cleaning products on the environment, but also to provide a safer indoor environment for the people in and around the campus buildings. Similar programs in business settings have been proven to reduce absenteeism by as much as 23 percent and increase employee retention by as much as 12 percent. The College hopes that by doing the right thing for the environment, they can also improve the comfort and safety of each member of the Northland community.
