Northland College will host a Fall Choral Celebration on Saturday, October 27. The event will be held in the Alvord Theatre of the Ponzio Campus Center on the Northland campus beginning at 7:30 p.m. It will include performances by the Northland Singers, the Northland Chamber Choir, and the Lumberjack Chorus conducted by Dr. Jared Anderson, as well as several selections by The Accidentals conducted by Donalee Brevak. The celebration will showcase the efforts of Northland students and other members of Chequamegon Bay community.
The Lumberjacks, a men’s ensemble open to all community members, will perform three songs; “Gentle Annie” arranged by Robert Shaw and Alice Parker, “The Morning Trumpet” arranged by Mack Wilberg, and “I Sing the Mighty Power of God” arranged by J. Harold Moyer. Northland’s Chamber Choir, an 8 voice select ensemble, will sing “As Vesta Was from Latmos Hill Descending” by Thomas Weelkes, “Lay a Garland” by Robert Pearsall, “Karin Boye’s Evening Prayer” by Egil Hovland, and “Buffalo Gals” arranged by Alice Parker. The Accidentals, a women’s ensemble open to all community members, will be performing “You are the New Day” written by John David and arranged by Philip Lawson, and “Laudamus te” by Antonio Caldara arranged by Nancy Grundahl. The Northland Singers, an ensemble composed of students and community members, will perform “Three Madrigals” by Emaa Lou Diemer, “Three Australian Bush Songs” by Iain Grandage, “Ngana” by Stephen Leek, “The May Night, Op.43 no.2” by Johannes Brahms arranged by Arthur Frackenpohl, “Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven” by Mack Wilberg, and “Plenty Good Room” by Kirby Shaw.
Anderson has taught on the music faculty at Northland College since 2004. He conducts the Northland Singers, the Northland Chamber Choir and the Lumberjack Chorus. He also teaches courses ranging from private piano and voice to music theory and music history. Anderson holds a doctorate in conducting from University of Minnesota and a master of music in choral conducting and a bachelor of music in piano from Brigham Young University.
Donalee Brevak teaches music in the Washburn school system. In addition to conducting The Accidentals and giving private lessons, she conducts the Lake Superior Youth Choir with Diana Mann.
