Morgan Falls

South of Ashland sits Morgan Falls, a popular destination in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, where, after a half-mile hike along a well-groomed trail, you can sit and watch Morgan Falls cascade down 70 feet of rock face. It’s a nice spot to relax on a hot summer day, as the falls provides a cool respite from the heat.

During spring wildflowers abound along the trail to the waterfall, and it’s not uncommon to see such species as trillium, jack-in-the-pulpit, marsh marigolds, and, in some places, Dutchmen’s breeches.

If you've still got energy from a jaunt to the waterfall, you can hike uphill to St. Peter’s Dome, where an uplifting vista allows views of Lake Superior some 25 miles away. The hike is well worth the trip, especially in autumn when the northern forest begins to turn color.
