Student Involvement

At Northland College, students are offered a variety of opportunities to work directly with issues concerning sustainability and environmental commitment and make real change in our campus and community.

Some organizations to get involved through are:

Environmental Council:

Environmental Council consists of a dedicated group of students, staff, and faculty committed to furthering Northland's environmental mission. It was first formed in 1987 to "... help define the environmental mission of Northland and to advise the college community on how to carry out that mission". To this day, it continues to help set the strategic direction of Northland’s environmental commitment through student leadership and innovative projects such as on-campus composting, The Dark-Sky Initiative, participation in the national RecycleMania competition, and Energy Awareness Month.

Contact Environmental Council or become it's MySpace friend.

Green Fire:

Green Fire is Northland’s environmental activism organization. It focuses on enhancing the health of the Chequamegon bioregion through activism, education and networking. They also invite several speakers on campus throughout the year. Green Fire members tend to be folks on campus you see stopping to pick up a stray piece of trash and who are involved with the Environmental Council.

Sunshine Community:

The Sunshine Community is focused on making the Northland College campus a tight-knit and welcoming community. Because of this, EVERYONE is a member of the Sunshine Community. They support the bike program and shop, the Mino-Aki Community garden and the Strawbale House, and serve as home-base for a number of campus clubs and organizations. The Sunshine folks make Northland a more open and friendly environment and provide sustainable programs and activities all year round.
