Have your son or daughter take an interest inventory - Taking an interest inventory will help your son or daughter focus in on an area and an interest that fits who you are.

Have your son or daughter attend the Northland College Career Fair - Attending a job fair can be an excellent way to meet people who share your son's or daughter's interests and find their first pre-professional experience

Sophomore Year

Start finding mentors - By participating in internships or other employment/volunteer experiences in your area, your son/daughter is meeting people who will be VERY important when trying to find a job after graduation.  Read more about building networks.

Senior Year

Check out the Career Services Calendar of Events - Be sure to check out the Career Services programs to reinforce any skills needed for the future. The Etiquette Dinner and Mock Interviews are important programs that seniors should participate in if you have not already done so, to gain the experience for future interviewing processes.

Networking - Networking will expand your  son's/daughter's opportunities for potential employment.  Personal, social, and professional networks can all play a vital role in obtaining employment after graduation.

Job Database - Checking out Northland's Job Database may not be as helpful for full-time positions, but it contains links for each academic area and there are a few employers looking specifically for Northland graduates so is worth searching.

Meet with the Career Counselor if your son/daughter is having any trouble with the job search process, have any questions, and please let her know when you have found employment.  Thanks and good luck in your future!!!
