Living on Campus

We believe that the time you will spend living in the residential hall community will be a very memorable part of your college experience. To help enhance the experience, here are a few pointers that are important to remember as a hall resident:

  • Show respect to the places and people around you.
The Residence Hall is your home as is the entire campus. Show that you care about it.
  • Respect differences. No two individuals are alike. Different people have different ideas and values.  There is much to learn if you are willing to be open and put forth effort to understand.
  • Be willing to compromise. An inch of compromise can save a ton of grief.
  • Maintain open communication with your roommate, neighbors, and residential life staff. Developing these relationships can enhance the quality of your life here at Northland.
  • Be open, sensitive, and responsive to the needs of those around you.
  • Be responsible and have fun.
  • Be frank with the people you live with. Develop the skills to address people who have disturbed you in a calm and tactful manner.
  • Make things happen for yourself and those around you. You’re responsible for your experiences while here at Northland. Take the initiative to plan and carry out hall and campus activities. Each hall has an activity fund especially for this purpose. Contact your R.A. to get more information.
  • While the others around you are important, make sure that the decisions you make are yours and reflect who you are as well as what you want.

The Residence Hall lifestyle is academically supportive as well as fun and exciting. However, much of your overall experience will depend on what you put into it. Study hard, have fun and take advantage of the days that lie ahead.
