Non-reserved lots are open to students, staff, faculty, and visitors to the college from 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. free of charge and without a permit. Non-reserved lots are:
Parking Permits are required for all overnight parking on campus (1 a.m. to 7 a.m.), and at reserved lots at all times. Parking permits must be displayed in the lower corner of the windshield on the driver's side.
In the event of a change of vehicle (loaner vehicle, new purchase, etc.) permits may be transferred to the new vehicle. Please notify the business office immediately for records change. Overnight parking is not allowed at Physical Plant, VAB, Wakefield/Wheeler, Brownell Hall, Bro House, or on the south side of the Campus Center lot. An allowed exception is a MELLC resident with a valid parking permit and a handicap permit displayed. Persons picking up vans and rental vehicles will have parking provisions made available in accord with seasonal conditions.
Overnight visitor parking is allowed in the general lots with a Guest Permit. Guest permits may be purchased at the Business Office or the Physical Plant Office during business hours on weekdays. After hours and weekends, the host of the visitor should contact their Residential Life staff member for instructions.
Visitor spaces at Wakefield Hall are reserved for admission's guests from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The admissions staff provides permits for these spaces as visitors arrive. The Brownell Hall visitor spaces are reserved for visitors to the campus. Other campus parking may be added for special occasions and signed accordingly.
Meters at Mead/Townhouses are limited to posted times and are enforced Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Parking permits do not apply at meters, and there is no parking at the meters from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. daily.
Vehicles parking in handicap-designated spaces must display a current state issued handicap-parking permit. Vehicles parked overnight in handicap spaces require a general parking permit or guest parking permit.
Vehicles must be parked in parking lots. There is no parking in delivery and service areas, fire and driving lanes, or on the grounds at any time. Inoperable vehicles are not allowed on campus. Please report inoperable vehicles to the Physical Plant Office for assistance. The maintenance staff will assist starting stalled vehicles with some limitations. Boats, trailers, motorcycles, snowmobiles, ATVs, or anything requiring parking space must have a valid permit. Parking on lawns or in maintenance storage areas is not allowed.
Parking is allowed in designated service and delivery areas for short drop-off and pick up of packages and equipment with vehicle flashers on. Abuse of this provision may be ticketed. Staff and faculty using personal vehicles regularly on campus will be issued a Service and Delivery permit by the Business Office if approved by Campus Security. This permit must be applied on the lower part of the driver's side windshield.
Campus Safety staff will enforce parking. Vehicles parked in violation of policy will be ticketed with a Northland College ticket. If the ticketed vehicle has a college permit, the fine will be billed to the permit holder. If the vehicle doesn't have a valid permit, the ticket must be paid to the college business office. If the college ticket isn't paid on time, a complaint will be issued to the Ashland Police Department. The APD will then issue a more expensive ticket in addition to the NC ticket. Any vehicle that requires towing off campus will be ticketed before the towing agency removes the vehicle from campus. The vehicle owner is responsible for towing and storage charges in addition to any tickets.
Parking appeals must be received within two weeks. Send Parking Appeal Form to campussafety@northland.edu as an attachment or mail to:
Campus SafetyNorthland College1411 Ellis Ave.Ashland, WI 54806.
Reasons for voiding ticket along with all times, dates, names and addresses must be included. A committee will promptly consider the appeal and a written response will be sent.
The Baseball Field lot is designated as the long-term parking lot. Permit holders are required to park at the Baseball Field lot when they will be off campus for more than three days during the snowplowing season or any time when off campus extensively.
Campus lots will be closed as needed for snow plowing or maintenance. Notification will be given by posting temporary signs at lot entrances with the day and hours the lot will be closed. Campus-wide e-mail notice will also be sent out. If vehicles are left in lots that are closed and they interfere with snow removal or maintenance work, they may be ticketed and towed.
Cars parked in no parking areas, delivery or service areas, in fire lanes or driving lanes will be ticketed. Vehicles may be towed if they interfere with public safety, grounds care, road or parking maintenance, or snow removal.
Northland College permit holders may park in the Good Shepard church lot overnight but may not park in designated reserved spaces at any time or during regularly scheduled services (for example, Sunday). For special events (weddings, funerals, etc), the church will give advance notice to the college, which will then notify the campus via e-mail that the church lot is closed to the campus. The church may fine the college for a repeat offender of this shared-use policy. Those fines will be billed to the offending vehicle owner.
Temporary permits for summer parking from end of Spring Session to August 15 cost $5.00. Lot assignment will be made at the time the summer permit is issued.
