Facilities

General-use computer access is available to on-campus students through computers in the residence halls and designated public labs in the two main academic buildings on campus. In addition, many academic departments have their own computer labs available for their majors. Wireless internet is also available in areas around campus.  Laptops with wireless access are available for use in the Ponzio Campus Center and Dexter Library.  These can be checked out at no cost with your Northland ID at the Information Desk in the Campus Center or at the Circulation Desk in Dexter Library.

General-use Computer Labs

There are two main computer labs under the IT department's supervision, one in Wheeler Hall (WH) and one in the Larson-Juhl Center for Science and the Environment (CSE). The Wheeler Hall computer lab (WH012) is located in the basement. The lab in the science building (CSE 236) is used during the day for classes and in the evening as a student computer lab. Hours the labs are available for use are posted by each computer lab.  All computers are PCs with Windows XP Professional and require a Northland logon for access.  Laser printing is available in both labs.

Computer Lab Hours

Computer lab hours are posted outside the WH012 and CSE236 computer labs.  Please visit these locations for more information about computer lab schedules and availability.

Computer labs are closed during breaks (mid-session, Thanksgiving, Christmas break, and Spring break).

Public Computers in the Residence Halls

While the two main computer labs have restricted hours, each of the student residence halls has several computers set aside for general use of residents. Specifications on these computers vary, but all are PCs with Windows XP Professional, and also require a Northland logon for use. To learn about the computing facilities in your residence hall, contact your RHD or floor RA.

Laptop Rental

The College does not have a laptop rental program.  A limited amount of laptops are available for checking out at no cost with your Northland ID at the InfoDesk in the Ponzio Campus Center. These laptops can be used only in the campus center and for a limited amount of time. Check at the InfoDesk for the laptop checkout regulations and schedule. All laptops are PCs with Windows XP Professional, requiring a Northland logon, and have access to the wireless internet in the campus center.
