March 17, 2008Freshman Steph Langfeldt and sophomore Karen Harnisch earned UMAC Player of the Week Awards for their performances in the first games of the season. Langfeldt was named Pitcher of the Week and Harnisch was named Hitter of the Week for February 25-March 2. Steph Langfeldt went 2-2 in the LumberJills' season-opening trip to Arizona, including a win against LaRoche College, who advanced to the NCAA tournament last season. Langfeldt pitched 31 innings, giving up 24 runs – 20 of which were earned. In all four games combined, she recorded 17 strikeouts while giving up 38 hits.
Karen Harnisch recorded at least one hit in all but one of the LumberJills’ spring training games in Arizona. In nine games, Harnisch was 13-for-33 (.394), tallying a home run, three doubles and seven RBI to go along with a .576 slugging percentage.
