Mel Grego, Becky Walters, and Brittany Schmitt were all named to the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference First Team today. Aurora Albrecht and Bobi Jo Wolf were both named to the Honorable Mention Team. Grego and Schmitt also made the UMAC All-Defensive Team.
Grego, a senior centerfielder from Houghton, MI hit .304 in 37 games this season. She had five doubles, one triple and a homerun. She led the Jill's in runs scored with 31 and also had 13 runs batted in from the lead-off position.
Walters, a sophomore rightfielder from Porterfield, WI, started 41 games and batted .326. She led the team in doubles (8),homeruns (5), RBI's (32) and in slugging percentage (.504). She was also a 1st Team selection in 2006.
Schmitt, a freshman lefthander from Abbotsford, WI, appeared in 26 games on the mound, including 22 starts. She went 14-9, with 20 complete games and five shutouts. She posted a 2.13 earned run average in 139.2 innings while striking out 143 batters and walking just 17. Schmitt led the UMAC in ERA, innings pitched and wins. She was also named the UMAC Player of the Week twice this season.
Albrecht, a sophomore second baseman from Cadott, WI, hit .280 in 39 games this year. She had two doubles, two homeruns, 13 runs batted in and led the Jill's in assists with 67.
Wolf, a sophomore first baseman from Marquette, MI, batted .294 as she started all 42 games this year. She was second on the team in hits (37), doubles, (6) and was tied for the team lead with six homeruns. She also drove in 29 runs and slugged .460.
