Mayville State Blasts Early in First

March 3, 2008

Box Score

The Jills (1-1) took a rough start in the second game of the day as the Mayville State Comets capitalized on three defensive errors to catch a quick 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first and scored another two runs in the third to lead the way to a 7-2 victory.

Brittney Schmitt went the distance throwing six innings for the Jills.  She gave up seven runs on six hits, three of which were erned and blew out eight Comet batters.
Katie Zaban lead the Jill's offense as she was 2-3 with two singles and a hit by pitch.

The Jills showed some momentum in the top of the sixth as Stephanie Langfeldt reached on error, Aurora Albrecht walked, Alexis Potter would walk for her second time, and Margeret Koosman's pinch hit single drove in Langfeldt and Albrecht for Northlands two lone runs.

Aside from the first inning the Jills played a close game as they only allowed four more hits, but they couldn't drive in runs as they left ten runners stranded on base.

The next game for the Jills is tomorrow as they have an early 9:00 AM start against the University of Dubuque Spartans.
