Game 2 box score

Due to unplayable field conditions at LumberJill Field, Northland College and the University of Minnesota-Morris played in Duluth, MN where the Jills won both games via the run limit 12-3 and 8-0.

The Cougars (4-10, 3-6 UMAC) jumped on LumberJills starter Brittany Schmitt in the first as they scored two runs on three hits.

Northland (12-13, 9-1 UMAC) scored an unearned in the second and tied the game in the third after Amanda Seely, who doubled to leadoff the inning, crossed the plate on a wild pitch.  They added another run, both unearned, in each of the next two innings to take a 4-2 lead.

In the sixth, Schmitt started the inning with a single.  After a failed sacrifice bunt attempt on the first pitch she saw, Alex Potter atoned big time as she deposited the next pitch over the leftfield fence.  Karen Harnisch made it 6-2 after a two-run double and then scored on Becky Walters' RBI double.  The outburst continued as Stephanie Langfeldt singled and scored on Schmitt's first collegiate homerun.  The game ended as the run limit came into play as the Jills tallied eight runs on eight hits.

Northland pounded out 16 hits, with Harnisch and Langfeldt each collecting three, while Katie Zaban, Schmitt, Potter and Seely each adding two apiece.

In game two, Stephanie Langfeldt tossed a one-hitter and Northland scored two runs in each of the four innings they were up in the 8-0 shutout win.

Tiffany Datko, who singled to start the first, scored an unearned run and the Jills added another on a fielder's choice by Karen Harnisch.

A Datko run-scoring single and a sacrifice fly from Aurora Albrecht in the second stretched Northland's lead to 4-0 after two.

Becky Walters and Langfeldt each added RBI doubles in the third while Katie Zaban RBI triple and a Harnisch sacrifice fly pushed the lead to 8-0 after four innings of play.

Langfeldt was in complete control as she only allowed one baserunner in the game, a second inning single.  She faced only one batter over the minimum and struck out two.  Datko and Langfeldt each had two of the Jills' eight hits.  With a hit in the second game, Zaban tied the Northland College hits record held by current coach Tricia Darrington.

The Jills will attempt to play the makeup game from Saturday's postonment with a doubleheader with Presentation College tomorrow at 1:00 PM
