Jills Slug Their Way Past Knights

Northland College (7-12, 4-0 UMAC) got the offense going early and often to take both games of a double header against Martin Luther College (6-4, 6-2 UMAC) by scores of 12-1 and 11-1. 

In game one, sophomore Brittany Schmitt pitched a complete game to earn her fourth victory of the year. She allowed one run on two hits and three walks while striking out seven. The Jill's collected 18 hits including 10 extra base hits. All nine starters collected at least one hit and eight of them had at least two. Becky Walters led the offense with three hits and three RBI's. Stephanie Langfeldt went 2-4 and drove in three runs.

Northland scored three runs in the first on an RBI double by Walters, RBI single by Karin Harnisch, and an RBI double by Langfeldt. The Jills didn't score again until Amanda Seely doubled to collect her first RBI of the year.

In game two, freshman Stephanie Langfeldt threw the second complete game of the day. She allowed one run on four hits. The offense scored 11 runs on 17 hits. 

Aurora Albrecht got the Jills on the board in the first inning when she scored on a double by Karen Harnisch. They scored again in the second on an RBI single off the bat of Tiffany Datko. Datko finished the day 3-3 with an RBI.

Northland opened the lead up to 6-0 in the fourth when both Katie Zaban and Asia DeVlaeminck hit homeruns. Zaban's was only a solo shot while DeVlaeminck's was a two-run homer.

The Jill's rounded out their scoring when they scored four in the fifth to push the lead to 11-0. The Knights scored an unearned run in the bottom of the inning when Kimberly Matthies singled, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a double by Amanda Mikula.
