The Jills picked up their first win, improving to 1-1 on the season with today's 5-4 win over LaRoche College. The Jills improved on their five errors from the first game of the season, to just two against the Redhawks. They also improved their offensive attack with 12 hits, compared to the four against the UW-River Falls Falcons.Tiffany Datko got the Jills started when she scored on an error by the shortstop, after leading off with a single, to get Northland on the board early. The Redhawks answered with two of their own to take the lead after the first inning, but Aurora Albrecht scored on Datko's single in the second to tie the game at two apiece.Going into the seventh inning, down one, Katie Zaban led the Jills with a double, before Karen Harnisch followed with a single and advanced to second. Then, Becky Walters reached on a fielder's choice as Zaban was thrown out at home and Harnisch advanced to third. Harnisch, finally, took advantage of an error by the Redhawks to tie the game at three.In the eighth inning, Shondrieka Givens was being placed on second and scored the unearned run on Asia DeVlaeminck's single. LaRoche College followed this run by tying the game for the third time. Datko was placed on second to start the ninth and scored on Zaban's single to give the Jills the lead that they would hold for the remainder of the game.Freshman Steph Langfeldt pitched for the Jills, giving up only two earned runs and striking out six batters, during the nine innings pitched.
