Comets streak past Jills

March 7

Box Score

Mayville State University broke open a close game with six runs in the final two innings to defeat Northland College 9-1 at the Tucson Invitational in Tucson, AZ.

Chelsa Carley gave the Comets a 1-0 lead after her leadoff homerun off Stephanie Langfeldt.  Carley came up big in the second inning as well as her two-out two-run double gave Mayville State a 3-0 advantage.

In the bottom of the third, Tiffany Datko walked with one out.  After she stole second and advanced to third on Katie Zaben's single, she came around to score on Becky Walters RBI single.

In the fifth, the Comets were able to score three runs without the benefit of a hit.  Two Northland errors and a passed ball led to a 6-1 deficit after five.  Mayville State more than earned the three runs they plated in the sixth as they tallied together five hits in the inning.

Offensively, the LumberJills (2-6) were only able to muster five hits off of Carmel Ditlevson, with two of them from Asia DeVlaeminck.
