November 2Box ScoreThe College of St. Scholastica advanced to the UMAC Tournament Championship for the sixth time in seven seasons with their 2-0 semifinal victory over Northland College at Public Schools Stadium this morning.Melissa Entinger broke a scoreless tie in the 41st minute with her fifth goal of the season, taking a feed from Ellyn Litecky and pasting a shot into the corner to put the Saints up 1-0.Though St. Scholastica (18-2-1, 14-0 UMAC) outshot the Jill's 15-3 in the half, they still took only the one goal lead into halftime.Early in the second half, the Saints' Sarah Bartlette increased the lead to 2-0 with a corner kick that crossed the goal from left to right and curled inside the right post.Northland (6-11-2, 6-6-2 UMAC) had an unsuccessful breakaway in the opening minutes of the game, but had to wait until the 81st minute to threaten again. St. Scholastica keeper Kelly Momsen made a diving stop of a Sarah Strobino (Buffalo, NY) header to preserve the shutout. Junior Brittany Ballwanz (Fond du Lac, WI) collected 14 saves in the loss for the LumberJills.The victory moves the Saints one step closer to the UMAC Championship and a possible NCAA Tournament bid. St. Scholastica will face the University of Minnesota-Morris in the final after the Cougars clawed past Northwestern 2-0 in the other semifinal.
