Three Jills Named All-Conference

February 25, 2008

For the second straight season, Lindsey Hamm and Chelsea Lundgren were named to the UMAC All-Conference team and Evelyn Hoosier was named to the Honorable Mention Team.  Each of those players were named to the same team last season.

Lindsey Hamm, a sophomore from Ontonagon, MI, led the Jills in many categories this season, and really stacked up well in the conference statistics.  Her 14.1 points per game ranked her sixth in the conference, and she was 12th in shooting with a percentage of .380.  She was tops in the league in free throw shooting, hitting 85.4% of her free throws.  She was third in three point shooting at 39.3%, and first in three pointers made with 2.36 per game.  She also was third in the league in steals, getting 2.36 per game and fifth in assists with 3.21.  Her 1.13 assist to turnover ratio ranked her fourth in the conference.

"Lindsey was the best point guard in the league this year," said Coach Roiger.  "She is not only one of the top shooters and scorers, she also is one of the top in assists and in defense, and she rebounds extremely well from a guard position.  What I love most about her is her toughness.  She will do whatever is needed and has a tendency to rise up in the difficult games.  She is so coachable, and has learned so much in her first two years, the future for her is very bright.  She is also developing into a leader, and took great strides this year in becoming a player that others rally around.  I look forward to coaching her these last two years, the sky is the limit for Lindsey!"

Chelsea Lundgren, a sophomore from Crosby, MN and last year's NewComer of the Year, also joined Hamm as a two-time First Team selection.  Lundgren was 10th in scoring at 12.6 points per game, and was fifth in rebounding with 7.1 per game.  She was fourth in shooting percentage at .476, seventh in FT percentage at .692, and 10th in steals with 1.64 per game.  She was 13th in blocked shots at .64 per game and was 8th in offensive rebounds per gaem (2.07) and fifth in defensive rebounds per game (5.00).

"Chelsea had another outstanding year for us, and she can be even better in the future," said Coach Roiger.  "She had some health issues to overcome early in the season and just kept getting better as the year progressed.  She is an outstanding post player who can face the basket and hit the mid-range jumper or play with her back to the basket.  She has excellent athleticism and is always a threat to score.  As Chelsea goes, our team goes, because her inside presence opens up the perimeter game for our guards.  We are very fortunate to have her back for the next two years as well, her and Lindsey make a great inside-outside combination."

Evelyn Hoosier, a senior guard from Milwaukee, WI, was named Honorable Mention for the second consecutive season.  Hoosier was 20th in the league in scoring at 7.8 points per game, and was third in assists with 3.42 per game.  Her high assists total, combined with her low turnover ratio, gave her the top assist to turnover ratio in the UMAC at 2.41.  She also was ninth in three-point shooting percentage at 31.6%, and 15th in three pointers made at 1.00 per game.

"Evelyn had another solid year for us," said Coach Roiger.  "She was a leader on the floor and her defensive intensity set the tone for our team.  No one could get out and put pressure on guards like Evelyn could, and her greatest strength was creating for her teammates.  She makes excellent decisions with the basketball and helped our offense get going in our break.  She will be difficult to replace next year, but I hope her work ethic will leave a legacy for our younger players to grow into."
