CCSA Region meet 10K Classic

Sara Domek ends her Nordic season in grand fashion

Senior Sara Domek competed in the CCSA Region Championships this past weekend at Giants Ridge, MN.  Entering the meet Domek was in 25th place in the CCSA standings.  Having had her best performance of the year in Saturday's 5K Freestyle race, Domek was set to finish her collegiate career in style with a strong showing in Sunday's 10K classic race.  Her previous best finish was 29th in the 10K classic going into Sunday's race.  At about the 1K mark Domek was in 30th position.  Determined to move up the CCSA standings, she kept charging away and by the 7K mark had moved up to 25th spot just behind two other skiers.   The three of them formed a train up the last long hill on the course.  Coming out of the woods with about .5 K to go, Domek was in 24th place but was unable to fight off Megan Holmes of Saint Scholastica who passed Domek, pushing her back to 25th place.  "Sara had the race of her life today," States Coach Dave Beeksma.  "She had a great weekend of racing and will definatly move of the CCSA standings yet again."  Domek dropped her Freestyle points with her Saturday race by 32.3 points and took off 35.4 points off her classic to finish the season with 212.09 points overall taking a whopping 50.11 points off her 2007 overall results.
Freshmand Cassie Bodette also had a strong weekend.  Bodette took 63.8 points off of her freestyle points and 21.7 off of her Classic point total.  Her overall CCSA points for her first year of competition in the CCSA was 395.33.
Domek's time for Sunday's race was 37:27.  Bodette's time of 44:40 was good for 54th place.  Laura DeWitt of Northern MIchigan University won the women's 10K classic race with a time of 32:46.
