February 22Box ScoreFinlandia University went up 1-0 on Northland College in the best of three quarterfinals of the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association with a 5-1 win Saturday night in Houghton, MI.Since winning two consecutive one goals games at Northland on November 30th and December 1st, the Lions have outscored the Jacks 24-2 in the last three games.Finlandia scored the game's first goal at the 4:22 mark of the first period and then went up 2-0 when they found the net again just a little more than three minutes into the second period.Joe Belanger brought the LumberJacks within one as he scored his third goal of the season two and a half minutes later as they would trail 2-1 going into the final period. Finlandia sealed the game with three goals in the last six minutes to make the final score more lopsided than the game actually was.The Lions can wrap up the series today as the teams face-off at 3:00 PM (EST). If the LumberJacks win, the series will be decided by a single 20 minute period following game two. If the score remains tied, the two teams will play until a goal is scored.
