Shots don't fall for banged up Jack's

February 15

Box Score

With just svevn healthy players, Northland College shot only 28.6% in a 58-44 loss at Presenation College tonight.

Michael Mackey (Holmen, WI) and David Westerman (Santa Clara, CA) both were out becasue of injury while Chris Steiner (Auburn, WA) missed the road trip because of an illness.

Both teams struggled mightly in the first half to get anything going offensively.  They combined to shoot 13-52 (25%) from the field and 4-18 (22.2%) from three-point range.  The futility did not end there as free-throws were even hard to come by.  Northland (3-20, 1-11 UMAC) made just 8-15 (53.3%) while Presentation (7-16, 5-7 UMAC) connected on 2-6 (33.3%).  In the end, the Jack's took a 21-19 halftime lead.

In the second half, Jordan Arneson (Madison, WI) gave the LumberJacks a 26-21 lead after his three-pointer less than two minutes in.  The Saints then marched ahead as they went on a 10-0 spurt to take a 31-26 lead with 14:43 left.  Two Ryan Cannata (Nashwauk, MN) free-throws got the Jack's within 31-28, but Presentation scored six straight to go up 37-28 with 11 minutes left.  Despite shooting just 33.3% in the second half, Northland hung around as they trailed 45-40 with 6:01 remaining.  A trouble spot all season long for the Jack's has been being unable to prevent scoring runs.  The dagger provided by Presentation on this night was a 9-0 surge after the LumberJacks pulled withi five.  After it was all said and done, the Saints led 54-40 with 3:44 to go and cruised from there.

Northland travels to the University of Minnesota-Morris for a 5:00 PM start tomorrow and will conlude the 2007-08 season at the College of St. Scholastica on February 19th at 7:30 PM.
