May 6Box ScoreNorthland College blasted five homeruns, including two each from Bryce Szymanski and Cody Carroll as the LumberJacks went on to roll past Crown College 13-5 this afternoon in Minnetonka, MN.The day was supposed to be a doubleheader with the Purple Storm and then a single game with Martin Luther College, but rain postponed the other two games.

Crown scored an unearned in the first inning off of starter Michael Cross (1-1). After a flyout in the bottom half, Szymanski belted his fifth homer of the year to straight away centerfield to tie the game at 1-1. Cross helped out his own cause as he also hit a solo homer to center the following inning.The Jacks began to open things up in the third. With one out, Mike Stevens singled, Szymanski was hit by a ptich and Matt Tanneberg singled. Carroll quickly broke the game open with a grand slam to center, giving Northland a commanding 6-1 lead.After a scoreless fourth, the Jacks plated two more in the fifth on Carroll's opposite field two-run bomb to right. The Purple Storm came back with two in the top of the sixth to pull within 8-3.

Three hits in the sixth produced five more runs for the LumberJacks. Ryan Freidel leadoff the inning with his first collegiate hit. Tyler Teadt reached on an error and then Stevens singled to right to score Freidel. With runners on first and third, Szymanski hit his third homer in three games to center to give the Jacks a 12-3 lead. Northland's final run of the inning was unearned on a dropped fly ball in leftfield.Stevens, Szymanski, Carroll and Chris Steiner each had two hits apiece. Carroll drove in a career-high six runs while Szymanski had four runs batted in. In fact, the LumberJacks homered for the cycle, as they had a solo, two-run, three-run and grand slam in the game.With the win, the Jacks improved to 10-13 overall and 8-6 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference. They currently are in third place with two games against Presentation at home tomorrow at 5:00 PM. Northland needs to win just one game to clinch the third seed and will have the fourth if the Saints win both. If the two teams split, Martin Luther will gain the fourth seed in Thursday's conference tournament.
