March 5, 2007

Game 1 Box Score

Matt Tanneberg and Casey Frantz each drove in three runs as Northland beat Wilkes University 10-4 in its season opener in Cocoa Beach, FL.

The Colonels scored single runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 2-0 lead.  The LumberJacks rallied back in the top of the fifth.

Chuck Breitenfeldt (Tigerton, WI) led off with a double to right.  Sam Ferraro (Fox River Grove, IL) and Jeremy Snow (Tucson, AZ) each walked to load the bases.  Frantz (Charlotte, MI) doubled down the right field line to tie the game 2-2.  After a flyout and a walk, Tanneberg (Kennewick, WA) singled through the right side to drive home Snow and Frantz and put the Jack's up 4-2.

Northland added another big inning in the sixth.  Ferraro led-off with a single and then stole second.  Snow's single and an error allowed Ferraro to score and make it 5-2.  Frantz then doubled again to right to score Snow.  After he stole third, Frantz took advantage of an errant throw to score and push the Jack's lead to 7-2.  Bryce Szymanski (Pequot Lakes, MN) kept the momentum going with a walk.  He then stole second and advanced to third on Michael Cross' (Auburn, WA) single.  Tanneberg's single to left brought home Szymanski and made it 8-2.  Cody Carroll's (Shawano, WI) single set-up Chris Panabaker's two-run double to left that scored Cross and Carroll.

Andy Finco (Hibbing, MN) got the win in relief of starter Brad Schoenman (Longmont, CO).  He allowed one run on one hit and struck out five in three innings of work.  Every starter had at least one hit for the LumberJacks.
