The Jacks fell to 1-8 on the season following a doubleheader against Macalester College.Game 1 Box ScoreMacalester jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning, but Northland posted single runs in the second, third, and fourth innings to tie the game. Cody Carroll (Shawano,WI) started the Jacks off by ripping a double to right center and scoring on Chuck Breitenfeldt's (Tigerton, WI) double down the left field line. In the third inning, Bryce Szymanski (Pequot Lakes, MN) singled to center field and then advanced from first to third on a passed ball. He then scored on Michael Cross' (Auburn, WA) sacrafice fly to center field.Macalester took control of the game in the sixth frame, scoring three runs, and Northland was unable to answer back before Macalester ran in six more in the seventh. Ted Kimble got the win for Macalester, striking out five batters and allowing five hits.After struggling in the first inning, Brad Schoenman (Longmont, CO) settled down and threw 5 1/3 innings of five hit ball. He allowed five runs, four earned, while striking out four and walking four.

Game 2 Box ScoreIn the second game, the Jacks again fell behind quickly in the first inning as Macalester scored six runs. After getting the lead off batter the next six Scots' batters reached base, scoring four runs in the process. After a strike out, Macalester added the final two runs of the inning on a two-run double. Andy Finco (Hibbing, MN) came in relief of John Strausser (Shamokin, PA) to record the final out of the inning.Bryce Szymanski (Pequot Lakes, MN) got Northland's first hit as he doubled to center in the third inning, but was unable to score after he reached thrid on a wild pitch.Macalester took control of the game in the bottom of the third as they added four runs on five hits. Cody Carroll (Shawano, WI) had Northland's only other hit when he doubled to right in the fifth.Finco threw 5 1/3 allowing six hits and four runs, all earned. He struck out four and walked just one.Northland opens conference play on Friday and Saturday against Crown. They play a doubleheader starting at noon on Friday and a single on Saturday, also at noon.
