The Jacks came out swinging against the Lions as they totaled 33 hits and 25 runs in the doubleheader sweep over the Finlandia Lions tonight. Game 1 vs FinlandiaIn game one of the night, the Jacks were off to a slow start, but Chuck Breitenfeldt (Tigerton, WI) got the them started in the fourth inning when he blasted a homerun. Sam Ferraro (Fox River Grove, IL), who followed Breitenfeldt's homerun with a single, stole second before Casey Frantz (Charlotte, MI) sent him home on a one-run double. After the fourth inning the Jacks held the 2-1 lead. They kept their momentum going with another great offensive inning, as they pounded out three doubles in the fifth. Cody Carroll (Shawano, WI) started the Jacks off with a double and scored on Bryce Szymanski's double (Pequot Lakes, MN), before Breitenfeldt sent Szymanski home on a double of his own, bringing the score to 5-2 to end the game.The Jacks were able to keep the Lions down all day as they managed only two runs on eight hits.John Strausser (Shamokin, PA) got the win for the Jacks, allowing two runs, both earned, on six hits, while striking out one and walking six. Andy Finco (Hibbing, MN) came in for the save, pitching one and one third innings, and allowing two hits.Game 2 vs FinlandiaIn the second game of the night, the Jacks came out swinging as they had a season high in hits and runs, with 24 and 20 respectively. Freshman Matt Tanneberg (Kenneqick, WA) had a school record number of hits in a game as he went 6-6. The Jacks got on the board right away in the first inning, scoring two runs on three hits. Casey Frantz (Charlotte, MI) doubled, then scored on Tanneberg's single. Cody Carroll (Shawano, WI) followed with a double and Tanneberg scored on Michael Cross' (Auburn, WA) fly out to center.Tanneberg hit a homerun in the third inning to bring the lead to 3-0. Northland followed with another huge fourth inning, scoring seven runs in all. Frantz, Szymanski, and Cross all had RBI singles, while Breitenfeldt and Tanneberg each had two. Finlandia finally got on the board in the fifth inning as they scored four runs, but the Jacks answered right back as Cross belted out a homerun to start the sixth inning for Northland. The Jacks didn't stop there. With the bases loaded Eric DeCaires (Brownstown, MI) blasted a grandslam homerun. Carroll and Chris Panabaker (Wiggins, CO) followed with RBI singles and Bo Storozuk (Swan Valley, MB) added a two run single. With nine runs in the sixth inning the Jacks brought their lead to 19-4, adding one more in the seventh to end the game 20-4.Ryan O'Dierno got the loss for the Lions, pitching three and two thirds innings and allowing eight runs on nine hits, while striking out one batter.Sean Ripley (Oconto Falls, WI) took the win for the Jacks, pitching five innings and allowing four runs on four hits, while walking four and striking out five. Andy Finco (Hibbing, MN) came in relief pitching two innings and allowing one hit while striking out one.
