Northland came out swinging after two week layoff by hitting five homeruns and collecting 26 hits in a doubleheader sweep at Crown College.Game 1 Box ScoreIn game one, Bryce Szymanski (Pequot Lakes, MN) hit two homeruns, while Cody Carroll (Shawano, WI) and Casey Frantz (Charlotte, MI) also went deep in a 19-2 thumping of the Purple Storm.The Lumberjacks hadn't played a game since March 21, but shook off the rust early in the first inning, all without the benefit of a hit. Szymanski led off with a walk while Andy Finco (Hibbing, MN) and Matt Tanneberg (Kennewick, WA) both reached after getting hit by a pitch. After a strikeout, Chris Panabaker (Wiggins, CO) was also hit by a pitch to bring home Szymanski. A sacrifice fly and a throwing error allowed Northland to take a 3-0 lead.Northland added six more runs in the second. After Frantz led-off with a single, Szymanski hit his first collegiate homerun to give the Jack's a 5-0 lead. The LumberJacks then loaded the bases and tallied four more runs in the inning off of just one hit. Crown pitchers issued one walk and hit three batters in a span of four Northland hitters.Leading 9-0 in the third, the LumberJacks pushed across eight runs in the third, highlighted by Frantz's and Szymanski's back-to-back homeruns. Panabaker delivered a two-run single, while Michael Cross (Auburn, WA) added an RBI double and Tanneberg an RBI single to cap the scoring.The Jack's scored two more in the fourth on Carroll's two-run homerun to right.Brad Schoenman (Longmont, CO) got the win, going five innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits. Dan Ruud (Minong, WI) pitched two scoreless innings, while sriking out five.

Game Two Box ScoreIn game two, Michael Cross (Auburn, WA) hit a grand slam and two Northland pitchers combined a four-hit shutout, completing the sweep in a 9-0 win.After a scoreless first inning the LumberJacks busted out with seven runs including Cross' grand slam. Northland got on the board first when Cody Carroll scored on Sam Ferraro's RBI groundout. The LumberJacks took a 3-0 lead after Chris Panabaker scored on a passed ball and on Jeremy Snow's (Tuscon, AZ) RBI single. After a walk and a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases Cross put Northland up 7-0 with his first collegiate homerun.After a scoreless third and fourth inning Northland scored its final two runs in the fifth inning on Mike Stevens (Cadillac, MI) RBI groundout and Szymanski's RBI single. Andy Finco got the win going five shutout innings allowing just four hits. He struck out four and walked only one. John Strausser (Shamokin, PA) pitched two hitless innings in relief.
