The Jacks started the weekend against the UM-Morris Cougars with a narrow defeat in the first game. Northland jumped ahead in the game 1-0 on  a home run hit by senior Kyle Rogers. However, the Jacks were not able to hold the Cougars  in the bottom of the second, as Morris scored 4 runs against pitcher Joey Norton.

The Jacks narrowed the lead to one in the top of the third as Corey Boe and Myles  Buuck stole home. The Jacks then held the Cougars to the 4-3 game. A run by Cody Carroll in the top of the fourth helped bring the Jacks back to even before the Cougars scored in the bottom of the fourth.

The top of the fifth brought in two more runs for Northland but the Cougars again scored 5 runs against the Jacks to essentially finish the game as they won by a final score of 11-8. Corey Boe led the Jacks in hits with 2 runs and 2 hits.

The Jacks battled back to take the nightcap.  Northland started off the game on the right foot as Travis Wederstrandt walked and then scored on a hit by DJ Feil. With Justin Kirby shutting out the Cougars, the Jacks held a 1-0 lead until the third inning.

In the top of the third, again Wederstrandt stood out as he tripled to left center which sent Myles Buuck home to score. Following that, Corey Boe reached on an error and Wederstrandt scored. Then DJ Feil stepped up to the plate and cracked another triple to bring Boe home. With a sacrifice fly by Rogers, Feil scored giving the Jacks a 5-0 lead.

In the bottom of the third, the Cougars scored their first run by an RBI by Culbertson. The Jacks held them to this lead and in the top of the sixth, Jason Jarrell scored to make the final score of this game 6-1. Leading in hits this game was Travis Wederstrandt with 2 runs and 1 hit. Kirby pitched a gem, allowing only the single run to earn his first collegiate victory.

The third game of this weekend was played on Saturday. Again, Wederstrandt scored in the first to give the Jacks an early lead.  However, the Cougars responded with two in the bottom half of the first to take a 2-1 lead.

Both teams then went scoreless until the sixth inning where Cody Carroll scored on a RBI by Brandon Frechette.  Frechette scored on a RBI by Myles Buuck. With the score now 3-2, the Cougars battled back and scored one more in the sixth to tie up the game.

Two unearned runs by the Cougars brought their lead to 5-3 and it wouldn't be until the top of the ninth that the Jacks would score again. This time Ryan Riley reached on an error.  With Mike Stevens pinch-running, two more Cougar errors allowed him to score to close the lead to 5-4.   However, Northland could plate no more runs Morris took home the victory.  Myles Buuck led the team with three hits while Wederstrandt and Rogers added two each.

The Jacks play St. Scholastica next on Monday, April 17th in Duluth, MN. Their overall record so far is 10-11-1.
