February 28Game 1 box scoreGame 2 box scoreThe University of Minnesota-Crookston spoiled the season opener for Northland College as they won both games in the Metrodome 4-0 and 13-4.The Golden Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the second inning after a two-out RBI double by Kayle Lewellen. They added two more runs in the fourth inning off starter Will Opdyk. With runners on first and third, Jake Poehler was picked off first. But Opdyk's throw to a converging Mike Stevens at second sailed into right centerfield and allowed both runners to score. Lewellen's run scoring single to center in the sixth off Tyler Teadt put UM-Crookston up 4-0.In game two, UM-Crookston jumped out to an early 10-0 lead after scoring three runs in the second and seven more in the third. In the top of the fourth, Northland added four runs, but one just one hit. Eric DeCaires was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring home the Jacks first run. A wild pitch to Casey Frantz allowed Michael Cross to cross the plate and make it 10-2. Mike Stevens bloop single to left centerfield scored Chuck Breitenfeldt and then Matt Tanneberg's bases loaded walk brought home DeCaires.The Golden Eagles scored two runs on two hits in the fifth inning and added their final run in the sixth. Overall, the LumberJacks were limited to just three hits in each game and struck out 16 times, including 11 in game one.
