Carroll and Tanneberg headline Jacks at All-Conference voting

Cody Carroll and Matt Tanneberg each were named to the First Team as the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference announced its All-Conference selections this afternoon.  Bryce Szymanski, Will Opdyk and Tyler Teadt all made the Honorable Mention Team.  Team awards were also announced as Carroll won the Silver Slugger (Best Hitter), Team Captain and Most Valuable Player.  Opdyk and Teadt tied for Best Pitcher.  For the complete list of All-Conference selections, please click here.

Cody Carroll hit safely in 23 of the 27 games this year and reached base in all but one game.  He ranked second in the UMAC with a .454 batting average and was fourth in homeruns (6) and runs batted in (34).  He was also third in slugging percentage (.784) and fifth in total bases (74).  He was a perfect 9-9 in stolen bases and committed just six errors while playing shortstop, catcher and third base.

Matt Tanneberg makes the First Team for the second year in a row.  He was second on the team in batting at .350 and doubles with eight.  He led the team in runs scored (27), walks (18), hit by pitches (10) and on base percentage (.519).  He was also 5-7 in stolen bases and made just one error at first base all season.

Bryce Szymanski was third in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference with seven homeruns.  He batted .319 with 25 runs scored, seven doubles and had a .648 slugging percentage.  He also compiled a 4-4 record in ten appearances on the mound with a team-high 52 innings pitched.

Will Opdyk transferred to Northland at semester this season and had a team-leading 3.60 earned run average in 40 innings.  He struck out 34 and walked just eight as opponents hit only .261 against him.  In conference, he was even better as he ranked seventh with a 1.71 ERA with 19 strikeouts against two walks in 21 innings pitched.

Tyler Teadt was superb in conference play as well as he had a 1.69 ERA in 16 innings and held opponents to a paltry .186 batting average.  Overall, he appeared in a team-high 12 games and had a 4.33 earned run average in 35.1 innings pitched.  In his last 20 innings, he allowed 13 hits and just three runs.  This included a two-hit, eight strikeout shutout against Martin Luther College.
