The 2007 LumberJacks look to improve on last year’s record as they return all but two starters and a deep bench which should prove to give the Jack’s plenty of fire power this season. The Jack’s realize the 2007 team underachieved and they look forward to having an opportunity to prove what this talented group can do on the field and in the conference. “Last year’s team created great opportunities, but fell short on the scoreboard because they couldn’t finish what they had created.” Coach Mayforth adds that “although the men’s program looked very good between the 18’s, it was the lack of scoring that proved to be the Achilles heel. Both the team and the coaching staff know this year they must prove that they have the ability to finish what they create if they are to be among the top teams in the conference!
The LumberJacks will be led by a talented group of seniors who have helped continue the great tradition of Northland Soccer passed on to them. “This group is hungry to prove they belong to be mentioned with some of the great teams Northland has had in the past. They see the pictures on the wall and awards some of the past teams have won and realize this group has the ability to be in the same conversation with these other teams and players, but have yet to prove it on the field.”
Coach Mayforth realizes that last year’s team underachieved and looks forward to having one more year to work with this group of outstanding players. “This team may not have accomplished what we believed we could, but I think this is a very special group and the best is yet to come.” Coach believes he has something very special but can they live up to what they believe they have? “At the end of the day it all comes down to how well we as a coaching staff prepare are players for each and every game. I believe that the success belongs to the players and the lack thereof rests with me.”
Expectations or not, this team has something to prove to itself and looks forward to having the opportunity to prove THEY BELONG!
