Head Coach Rob Robinson has been a fixture with Northland College Basketball for the last 13 years. As an assistant with the Men's program during the 1995 and 1996 season, the team won 19 games both seasons and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament in 1996. The next season, he was given the opportunity to take over the women's program that had averaged seven wins a year over the previous three years. Over the next eight years, the team averaged 17 wins, won five conference championships and made two NAIA National Tournament appearances. Now in his third year at the helm of the LumberJacks, it appears he has the program going in the same direction as the team he has coached in the past. Over the last two seasons, Robinson has led the Jack’s to the most wins over a three-year span in the last ten years. Along with the balance of this year’s roster, the future looks bright for the Jack’s. Robinson believes that building a championship program requires quality student-athletes both on and off the court. "The type of person you are is more important than how well you play basketball. Having players that are willing to work hard in all aspects of life is what will make us champions," according to Robinson, "In my system, if you work hard, listen, and put the team before yourself, you will have a great opportunity to play." The Jack’s look to their non-conference schedule to prepare them to compete for the conference title. "I feel that our non-conference schedule is one the toughest in the Midwest. Many coaches might shy away from some of the teams we play for fear of a blemish on their records, but we try to learn from everything we do while preparing for our conference season," Robinson states. Regardless of the opponent, one of the hallmarks of Robinson coached teams is playing harder than their opponents. Fans can expect this from the Jack’s whether on the road or at home in Kendrigan Gymnasium.
