The 3^rd Annual Kernan, French, Bystrom Golf Classic was held at the beautiful Cherokee Country Club in Madison, Wisconsin. Nearly 70 alumni and friends of the College got together to show their support of Northland’s athletic programs and enjoy a fantastic day for golf.

Two teams tied for first place this year, Team Tiziani and Team Frey were on top of the board with a score of 61. The tiebreaker process provided Team Tiziani the first place win for this year. Both teams played well and the competition will be even better next year with more teams.

The weather was picture perfect with temperatures in the seventies and a nice breeze. Players started off with an excellent picnic lunch before they hit the course. After golfing, participants were treated to a superb steak dinner banquet. Incredible raffle prizes included a Harley Davidson motorcycle jacket, a Tabasco golf bag signed by two professional golfers, and a round of golf for four at the Tuckaway Country Club in Milwaukee.

President Karen Halbersleben was on hand to give an update on the College and her exciting plans for her summer sabbatical. She will serve as the volunteer lighthouse keeper and historical interpreter on Michigan Island of the Apostle Island National Lakeshore. Karen will greet visitors to the island and battle the mosquitoes from mid-June to mid-July, with a long weekend off the island for Alumni Weekend.

This year’s special guest speaker was Northland College Board of Trustee member, “Famous Dave” Anderson founder of Famous Dave’s Bar-B-Que Restaurants. He spoke on the accelerated change in business and its effect on schools such as Northland. The finisher for the evening was Steve Wammer, Northland College Athletic Director and Women’s Softball Coach, who brought everyone up to date on the athletic programs.

It was a fantastic time for all who attendees and next year looks to be even better!
