To graduate from Northland, you need a minimum of 124 credits. Your degree has three parts - your major, the liberal education core, and elective credits. You can transfer in credits that can meet requirements in any of these categories.
To enroll in the Evening Degree Program, you must have a minimum of 58 semester hours of transferable college credits. Many students take advantage of the methods below to reach 58 credits.
You can use the options below to meet some of your graduation requirements:
All tests are computer based. Results are achieved immediately upon completion of the test. A raw score of 50 is needed to successfully pass a CLEP exam with the exception of ENG 111, where a minimum of 60 is required. If successful, your work will be recorded on your transcript as successful completion of (insert subject) CLEP exam. If unsuccessful, no notation is made on your transcript. Northland's current policy reflects successful CLEP results are equivalent to one semester of college work only.
You have learned many things outside of a college classroom. In our one-credit portfolio class you will learn how to translate education gained through experience into additional college credits. Your essays may include work, volunteer, church, or personal experiences. Earn up to 30 credits (equivalent to one year) using a combination of the portfolio essays and CLEP exams.
In addition to course offerings in the majors, we offer evening classes, both for elective credit and to fulfill liberal education requirements.
Independent study is an opportunity to utilize your special interests and skills to create your own course or project that can enhance your degree. Internships require you to do a special project at work or with a group you belong to. As an intern, you gain credit by working on a special project at your current workplace or with another group.
