Management & Leadership

"Management and Leadership students have such drive. I went into the program just wanting to finish my degree. I came out with new dreams and a plan."
- Judy Thompson '03

Since 1994 we've been helping adults achieve their educational goals while balancing work and family responsibilities. Our graduates are entrepreneurs, managers, artisans, small business employees, and others. Our instructors have included such regional experts as Leslie Hamp, marketing director for the American Birkebeiner, and Northland full professors like Dick Joyal, coordinator of our business department.

The Management & Leadership major is one major offered through the Evening Degree Program at Northland College. The major is designed for adult students with junior standing who have also had two years of full-time post-high school work experience or relevant volunteer, homemaker, or military experience, which includes exposure to the functions of management.

Students who complete the Management & Leadership major will be exposed to current theories and practices used by managers in the management & leadership field. The major consists of 12 courses, taken over a period of 16 months, and four consecutive semesters. Students take one course at a time, each of which lasts five weeks. Students take three courses per semester. Students may enroll in the major each September, January, or May. Students generally take courses for four hours on Tuesday nights for five weeks, and work with a core of adult students who are studying the topics in the major together. Courses in the major are taught primarily in an accelerated learning seminar format. Out-of-class hands-on projects are encouraged to allow students to study the health care field. A cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or better on a 4.0 grading scale must be maintained for all courses.

You Can:

  • Complete one course at a time
  • Take classes one night a week
  • Complete the accelerated major in sixteen months
  • Receive individual attention from faculty and staff
  • Learn through facilitated discussion
  • Finish additional requirements through evening courses

  • Begin in September, January, or May
