How We Move Foward

We will establish four work groups:

  • Academic Excellence
  • Human Sustainability
  • Environmental Sustainability
  • Financial Sustainability

The first will be co-chaired by the Academic Dean and the Chair of the Faculty Council. The other three will be co-chaired by a faculty member and a staff member.  There will be at least one faculty member, one staff member, and one representative from the Sigurd Olson Environmental Institute on each work group. Appointments will be made by the President after consultation with governance and divisions leaders.

The charge to each group will be to determine the tactics that will best support each strategy; to delegate authority and accountability as appropriate; and to monitor and report on progress in achieving each goal.  The work groups oversee the creation of measurable goals and methods for monitoring, assessing and ensuring results.

The co-chairs will meet together monthly as a Coordinating Committee to ensure that we are working and thinking in systems, and to coordinate efforts across campus.

Finally, the Coordinating Committee, meeting with the members of President’s Staff, will constitute the College’s Priorities and Planning Council.  The Priorities and Planning Council will serve as the College’s stated deliberative and consultative body, charged with reviewing the budget and all expenditure requests to determine that college-wide priorities are being adequately supported. The Council refers issues and topics that are ripe for action to established governance committees. This strategic collaboration does not supplant established bodies of shared governance, but is empowered to see the institution as a whole.  The Council connects planning with budgeting, the need for resources with persuasive ways to attain them, data with meaning, goals with assessment, and the past with the future.
