Achieving Our Vision

Providing Academic Excellence

To develop and execute a comprehensive five-year plan for fostering of academic excellence among students and faculty at Northland College. To generate a growth plan for Dexter Library over the next five years. To focus curricular development on mission and quality. The academic program should explore new or enhanced program initiatives while ensuring there is adequate faculty and staff support to effectively execute current programming. To develop its faculty development program toward a “best practices” model so that student learning and mentoring is maximized at Northland College.

Achieving Human Sustainability

To ensure that each worker is confident of the contribution she or he is making to achieving Northland’s mission, is respected by each colleague for that contribution, and is fully rewarded for that contribution.  To provide a campus culture that calls forth the “best self,” both from workers and from the community as a whole.  To foster a community in which passion for the College, its mission, and our students abounds, one which helps call forth the shared values that move people to the common tasks of moving a great institution forward.

Achieving Environmental Sustainability

To be a model for environmentally-sound practices. To make our environmental practices known internally and externally, and to continue to build the reputation of the Sigurd Olson Environmental Insitutute.  To consider the long-term consequences of the decisions we make today.

Achieving Financial Sustainability

To have multiple sources of reliable income.  To demonstrate that expense budgets and new investments support agreed-upon strategic goals and are set after campus-wide consultation.  To set aside a portion of net income every year as “seed corn,” to cover unexpected contingencies, deferred maintenance, and to invest in new initiatives.
