Civic Leader

Member of the Board of Trustees since 1978. Mary C. Van Evera is an activist for peace and justice in Duluth, in the northern region, and nationally. She has served as founding chair of the World Policy Institute, chair of the Duluth-Superior Area Community Foundation, and on the board of Common Cause. In the 80’s, she regularly commented on Minnesota Public Radio on matters of global awareness.

Retired president Bob Parsonage characterized Mary Van Evera as “the Queen Mother of Northland College Trustees.” Mary was a founding member of the Sigurd Olson Advisory Board. She joined the Northland Board of Trustees in 1978, and has served as vice-chair of the Board, then chair, and at the same time, chaired the Second Century Capital Campaign.

Mary currently serves as vice-chair of the Trusteeship Committee, and sits on the Executive, Academic Affairs, and Institutional Advancement committees.
