Member of the Board of Trustees since 2006. Tia Nelson is Executive Secretary, Board of Commissioners of Public Lands, for the state of Wisconsin. The oldest state agency, it manages 77,500 acres of forests, trust funds worth more than $600 million and land survey records going back to the 1830’s. One of Nelson’s focuses in her position is working on forest fragmentation issues in northern Wisconsin.
The daughter of former Senator and pioneering conservationist Gaylord Nelson , Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle has called Tia Nelson “one of the great leaders of the environmental movement in Wisconsin…carrying on her father’s legacy of land conservation.” Tia is the past director of the Climate Change Initiative of the Nature Conservancy.
