Member of the Board of Trustees since 2005. Dave W. Anderson is best known for his restaurant chain, Famous Dave’s, founded in Hayward, Wisconsin in 1994. His business has expanded to a chain of more than 130 restaurants all over the country.


Dave is a former Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior, Indian Affairs. He is an enrolled member of the Lac Courte Oreilles Band of the Ojibwa Nation. Dave was named a Bush Leadership Fellow in 1985. He holds a master’s degree in business from Harvard University and was awarded an honorary degree from Northland College in 2004.


He is the author of Life Skills for Success, and Backroads & Sidestreets. In 2001 he established The LifeSkills Center for Leadership, a nonprofit foundation focused on improving the quality of life of young Native Americans. In 2002, Oprah Winfrey’s Angel Network recognized Dave’s leadership work with Native American youth.

As a member of the board of trustees, Dave serves on the Business Affairs and Sigurd Olson Environmental Institute committees.
